Summer Camp 2010
Camp Laurel's mission is to provide educational and support programs to children, youth and families affected by or living with HIV/AIDS. Our Vision is to empower children, youth and families affected by HIV and AIDS. Camp Laurel's programs strive to improve the overall mental and physical health and welfare of children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS by reshaping their actions and ultimately the communities in which they live. This is done through the creation of programs that teach them the necessary life skills to overcome the adversity of AIDS and eliminate the social conditions that lead to many of their at-risk behaviors and economic and societal disparities. Our goal is to build a successful life path for the children and youth and create an overall healthy community amongst the youngest of those affected by HIV/AIDS. Camp Laurel develops program goals and objectives in accordance with our mission statement. This allows Camp Laurel to provide campers with a meaningful learning experience filled with friendship and fun. Our Goals and How We Achieve Them To offer a medically and physically safe, structured environment within which campers can test their perceived limitations. To create an atmosphere where children can forget about their illness and enjoy life. To provide a supportive environment for children living with HIV/AIDS. To teach children with HIV/AIDS sports and wilderness skills that will help to create higher self esteem. To develop camper self confidence and independence. To provide a novel and unique experience for children living with HIV/AIDS. |
